Heads-up for drivers in Spokane Valley on Tuesday morning.

Beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, Pines Road will be fully closed from just north of Pinecroft Road all the way to Trent Avenue for an entire day.

The complete shutdown on Tuesday will last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., so make sure to factor that into your travel plans for both your morning and evening commutes if you rely on this route.

Regarding the reason, the BNSF Railway Company will be implementing an underground reinforcement method called piling.

The City of Spokane Valley mentioned that the closure will take place during the local school district’s spring break in order to reduce traffic congestion related to schools.

This is the information regarding diversions in your region.

  • Road diversions will be set up at the intersection of Pines Road and Mansfield Avenue for travelers coming from the south.
  • Divertions via University Road and Sullivan Road for individuals coming from the northern direction.
  • Local access will be provided from Mansfield Avenue to East Pinecroft Way.

Yes, this is part of the broader Pines Grade improvement initiative," stated Erica Amsden, Spokane Valley Capital Improvement Program Engineering Manager. "The plan includes building an underpass beneath the BNSF tracks, shifting Pines Road to the eastern side, replacing the current signaled crossing with a multi-lane roundabout, and constructing a new entrance for those using the Centennial Trail.

In the end, authorities state that this initiative aims to "enable the future separation of grades at Pines Road (SR27) and Trent Avenue (SR290), facilitating vehicle movement underneath the bridge for enhanced safety and efficiency."

The entire initiative is undertaken in collaboration with WSDOT, BNSF, and the City of Spokane Valley.

The Spokane Valley requests your understanding as unexpected situations might cause delays or extensions of the current closure.
