Seoul Metro announced in an announcement at 10:41 a.m. that subway service has been restored at Soongsil University Station on Line 7.

On Thursday morning, subway trains went through Soongsil Station after the station managers noticed smoke originating from the second basement level around 9:30 a.m. The managers alerted authorities and ordered an evacuation of the passengers.

According to the station manager, the smoke originated from a blaze that ignited while workers were servicing the station's escalators.

"A manager informed journalists that the fire began when they were welding the escalator,” he said. “It is believed to be an incident that occurred during routine upkeep.”
