On Monday, April 7, two distinct accidents affected traffic on I-540 in Fort Smith, as reported by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).
Authorities stated that around 12:49 p.m., a collision occurred at mile marker 4 involving a commercial vehicle.
Teams were observed on the ARDOT camera addressing the situation. The traffic faced disruptions for more than an hour until the area was cleared. There were no reports of injuries.
Second crash
Around 1:25 p.m., an additional collision was reported on I-540 near mile marker 6.1, which added more congestion to the northbound lanes. Further information has not been disclosed.
By 1:40 p.m., the congestion continues to affect both locations.
