SUMMERSIDE – A 61-year-old man from Summerside had his license revoked and received an order to seize his vehicle when he declined a breathalyzer test over the weekend.

Around midnight on Sunday, March 30, an officer from the Summerside police’s regular patrol team conducted a traffic stop on a car on Harvard Street. The decision was made after law enforcement noticed the driver acting oddly in a nearby parking area.

The motorist declined to adhere to the required breath test and was taken into custody on the spot. As a result, the individual received a driving prohibition, a vehicle seizure order, and must appear in court to address the allegation of not complying with the mandatory breath requirement.

Summerside Police Services indicates that this particular event concludes an active latter part of March focused on impaired driving probes. Over the final fortnight of March, Summerside law enforcement anticipates filing charges in five distinct cases involving drunk driving.

Impaired driving remains a considerable issue throughout P.E.I. and Summerside," according to a statement from the department in a news release. "The police services continue to urge the public to report any suspected instances of impaired driving by calling 911 or reaching out to their closest law enforcement agency.

Phone calls from citizens have played a crucial role in assisting law enforcement in resolving several cases of drunk driving this year in 2025, and they express gratitude to the public for their collaboration in tackling the problem of impaired driving.
